David McDougall is the current President and Chief Executive Officer of Back Yard Burgers, Inc., a better burger restaurant company based in Nashville, TN. After joining the company in 2013, McDougall has led a successful turnaround effort improving three key segments of the business: unit-level economics, franchise relations and a return to Back Yard Burgers’ roots of hot, fresh, delicious food.
McDougall’s background includes more than 30 years of food service and franchise experience in both quick and full service specializing in operations, training and international business.
Prior to Back Yard Burgers, McDougall was the President of Fran Intel, Inc. a consulting firm that provides C Level financial and operations services to emerging and midsize franchise companies. His specialties included operations optimization, capital formation, accounting, international growth and start ups.
Before his tenure at Fran Intel, Inc., McDougall was Sr. Vice President of QSR Operations for NexCen Franchise Management, a multi-brand franchise company based in Atlanta, GA. Brands under his leadership included Marble Slab Creamery, Maggie Moo’s Treatery, Pretzel Time, Pretzel Maker and Great American Cookies, which had more than 1200 locations and generated sales of $375-million in eleven countries. McDougall ran the company’s Franchise Operations, Supply Chain, Training, and International Support.
McDougall also spent twelve years at Cinnabon, Inc. and was instrumental in the startup of the company’s international division, leading the initial expansion of the brand to more than 25 countries.
McDougall is a recipient of the prestigious Certified Franchise Executive designation (CFE) and is an active member of the International Franchise Association (IFA). In addition, he is a board member of the Southeast Franchise Forum and on the advisory board of No Kid Hungry.
